Hive Haven Display Sites

The Hive Haven V9 has been trialled over the last five years at various locations through out Queensland and most recently, Canberra ACT. Placing our design on public display was the best thing we could have done.

Observing bees in action is being used to calm high needs children and stressed-out adults, including the elderly.  Best of all they don’t sting.

You can observe native bees in our V9 Native Bee box in the following locations:

AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT HOUSE – CANBERRRA – ACT 

Location: Canberra, ACT, 2600

Site Characteristics: The reason this site was chosen for a Hive Haven V9 native bee box was to promote an awareness of Australian stingless bees to staff, politicians and tourists who visit Australian Parliament House. We relocated a hive from the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast.

 GLASSHOUSE PLANTATION – SUNSHINE COAST – QLD

Location: Glass House-Woodford Road, Glass House, 4518

Site Characteristics: The reason this site was chosen for a Hive Haven V9 native bee box was because the bees are used to pollinate the farms fruit & nut trees. Hive Haven native bee honey & Hive Haven honeybee honey is available for purchase at the kiosk. Open Saturday & Sunday.

QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY – GARDENS POINT CAMPUS

Location:  2 George Street, Brisbane, 2000

Site Characteristics: The reason this site was chosen for a Hive Haven v9 native bee box was to provide University students studying stingless native bees, on-campus access to a hive for research purposes.

CABOOLTURE MONTESSORI SCHOOL 

Location: 200 Old Gympie Road, Caboolture, 4510

Site Characteristics: The reason this site was chosen for a Hive Haven V9 native bee box was to assist students to learn about stingless native bees, pollination, honey and the environment.

GLASSHOUSE VIEWS RETIREMENT VILLAGE – BEERWAH 

Location: 96 – 104 Peachester Road, Beerwah, 4519

Site Characteristics: The reason this site was chosen for a Hive Haven V9 native bee box is because residents have a keen interest in gardening and would like to harvest their own stingless native bee honey.

FOREST HEART NURSERY – SUNSHINE COAST – QLD

Location: 20 Coral Street, Maleny, 4552

Characteristics: This site was chosen for a Hive Haven V9 native bee box is  because it specialises in local native plants and bush food plants. Karen and Spencer work directly with landholders and the wider community to promote and maintain local biodiversity.

AUSTRALIA ZOO WILDLIFE HOSPITAL – SUNSHINE COAST – QLD

Location: Steve Irwin Way, Beerwah, 4519

Site Characteristics: The Wildlife Hospital was a natural choice for a Hive Haven V9 native bee box location due to their work with wildlife and the natural environment. It is also the perfect place to raise awareness of the plight of bees.

MONTESSORI INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE – FOREST GLEN, SUNSHINE COAST 

Location: 880 Maroochydore Road, Maroochydore, 4556

Site Characteristics: The Farm was chosen to accommodate a Hive Haven V9 bee box because the stingless native bees assist in the pollination of the School’s market garden and provides the students with the opportunity to learn about stingless native bees, pollination and honey extraction.

LOGAN CITY COUNCIL ART GALLERY

Location: Wembley Road & Jacaranda Avenue, Logan Central, 4114

Site Characteristics: The project titled ‘Creative communing with the stingless native bee’s – Sandra Conte – Earth emag. This project was supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund – A partnership between the Queensland State Government, Hive Haven and Logan City Council.

INNOVATION CENTRE SUNSHINE COAST

Location: Sippy Downs, Sunshine Coast

Site Characteristics:  The Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast Butterfly Garden was chosen to install a Hive Haven V9 native bee box to raise awareness and to enable staff and visitors to learn about stingless native bees, pollination, honey and the environment. In 2018 we re-located the IC hive of stingless native bees to Australian Parliament House Canberra. We’ve replaced this colony with a ‘water meter box’ rescue colony.

UNIVERSITY OF THE SUNSHINE COAST COMMUNITY GARDEN – ‘MOVING FEAST COMMUNITY GARDEN’

Location: Sippy Downs, Sunshine Coast

Site Characteristics: The reason this site was chosen for a Hive Haven bee box was because the University gave us permission to ‘bud’ one of their residence ingless native bee hives.
